Oil

Oil is one of the most traditional painting genres that dates from, at least, the 7th century originating in the Middle East while European practice is recorded from the 11th century. Oil painting consists of colour pigments suspended in drying oils. The usual support for oil paintings is linen canvas stretched over a wooden frame.
