Chika Idu is a Nigerian contemporary artist, born on September 28th, 1974 in Umunede in Delta state, Nigeria. His ability was recognized at a very early stage by his late father who opened a studio for him and at the age of 15, he was already working on commissions as a secondary school student. He graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, Edo state in 1998, where he studied Painting.


Chika’s works are influenced by daily living and are characterized by a heavy texture and hazy rendition technique, which he calls ‘light against visual distortion’ like dust and misty fog. He is best known for his oil on canvas creations with popular themes including African children, female portraits, landscapes, and African ceremonies.
