Artist statement
My art speaks of and documents the socio-political situation in my society. I consciously and unconsciously find myself reflecting deep thoughts in my composition, sometimes I conceptualize and work while at the other times, in the process of work, I begin to see new possibilities and adapt a different approach or concept. My art speaks by showing my dislike for injustice, inequality and disparity.
I have always been interested in using animal figures to convey my message which I feel becomes more interesting when seen in an unfamiliar medium like rubber tyres. Almost everyone is familiar with the rubber tyre but when it is been used out of context, it challenges the audience to think different the same way it challenged me the first time I approached it. I choose the texture that best interprets my intended message, sometimes I acquire the tyres months before I conceive my intended message. The texture of any given tyre is inspiration to me and I often see some that are extremely interesting and inspiring that propels me to work more.
