Born in 1992, Julius Agbaje is a Nigerian conceptual artist who works primarily as a painter. The popular phrase “Art as a tool for change” is the creed that fuels his entire artistic practice, as is reflected in his paintings and writings, as well as his penchant for volunteerism. He is an alumnus of the Arts in Medicine Fellowship, where he also served as the Director of Art Projects in Lagos for a short period.

Julius regards his creative process as a journal which documents his transition through life; his connections and interactions with other humans, and human activities. In his compositions, he typically situates himself or his chosen subject in different poses, at the center of specific human activities as are peculiar to his chosen context. He adopts pipes in his painting technique as a metaphor for the interconnectedness of humans and human activities.
