BMW Integrates Digital Art in its New Models for 2022

To properly kick off business in 2022, automobile giant BMW has announced a new innovative design they are spearheading for the automobile industry. They are incorporating digital art into their new vehicles.

This new feature in BMW automobiles has been named the Digital Art Mode and was recently presented integrated into My Modes of the BMW iX M60 which was publicly launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The artist behind the groundbreaking Digital Art Mode is Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei who also created the 2017 M6 GT3 art car for the German car manufacturer. With a glowing show of pride in their newest feature, BMW stated that the incorporation of Fei’s art in their latest automobile embodies “a holistic user experience featuring both a functional and an emotional level.”

The Digital Art Mode works in the same way other functions of BMW’s My Modes work. There is a digital artwork by Fei titled the Quantum Garden presented on the head unit which shows visual spaces filled with dots, light beams, and nebulae constantly moving towards and away from each other at varying speeds while growing and shrinking again and again. To get this exciting innovation into harmony with the other car functions, the user only has to touch a button or use voice control and the vehicle’s drive control, steering control, mood lighting, sound, and the BMW Curved Display’s color scheme and graphics will become one with the digital artwork.

The multimedia artist who is the brain behind this exciting creativity explained that she sees Quantum Garden as “a poetic collection of universes, countless atoms, nebulae, and thousands of fast-moving beams of light from the depths of the universe, and those trailing strings of galaxies, growing larger and smaller, intersecting and extending, combining and separating, perceiving and listening to each other, around a myriad of constantly rotating centers.”

Fei’s design mostly represents connecting people, groups, and systems that affect each other.

As mentioned, the 2023 BMW iX M60 is the first Bimmer to get the Digital Art Mode but the automaker said that the feature will be made available for other BMWs this year, either installed in the showrooms or via over-the-air updates.
