Pop Art
Emerging in the 50's, pop art represents a rupture with the traditional Fine Arts. Short for “popular art” this genre chose a bright color palette, hard edges, fast-dry paint, and industrial print reproduction to make fast art accessible to the general public. Pop Art emphasizes the power of images and the consumerist society. Its pioneers Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein portrayed mundane mass-consumer products, brands, and famous figures including Campbell’s soup, Coca-Cola or Marilyn Monroe. Pop art has influenced not only the art world but fashion and music.
