Ink

Firstly used for writing or calligraphy, the drawing technique of ink on paper grew into the visual arts. The most famous type of ink comes from India even though ink and wash painting were firstly used in Asia. The Chinese refer to this genre as mo-shui, while the Japanese know it as suibokuga or sumi-e, and the Koreans call it Soomookwa. One of the world's most popular ink artworks, often imitated by other artists, is the so-called The Wave by the Japanese master Hokusai. Ink is used in visual arts in a variety of formats such as dipping ink, fountain pens, markers, airbrush, etc.
